about maya
In the sixth grade, I bought an electric typewriter with my own money, $110, a veritable fortune, and have been hard at work at the writer’s life ever since. Well, okay, there was a break there in my twenties when I thought writing was a fool’s gambit. But then, at 27, I decided, what the heck, I’m a fool!, and I wrote my first novel. It was fatally flawed, but still, it showed me I could do it. In the Summer of 2001 I was selected to join Orson Scott Card’s 2001 Writers Bootcamp, woo hoo! That fall I decided to up my game and enrolled in the Vermont College Masters in Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults program. I graduated two years later, pregnant with my daughter Sophie, my third novel as my senior thesis. Two babies and three more novels and we’re up to date: Conjuring Raine is my sixth.
